LP and Strongwilled, thanks for your opinions.
I had mentioned the first video in another thread because two separate casting people watched it and gave me completely opposite feedback. One called it “refreshing” and said “I’d like to see how you do in casting.” The second person reacted like Strongwilled and didn’t get it.
When I got a chance to speak with Lynne (due to the MS thing) I told her of the differing opinions and who the people were. Her comment was … “I can see that.” Lynne watched both videos and we chatted for almost a half hour about my videos and casting in general. She mentioned she had seen the first one previously. (She told me every video gets watched by two people. I found that encouraging.) I found her to be amazingly thorough and equally as insightful. She picked up on a single pronoun and used it to psychoanalyze how I might play the game on TV. She’s obviously a smart lady and I enjoyed speaking with her. (I’m no dummy myself.)
So Witchy …
I’ve gotta admit your critique made me laugh. I appreciate any casting insights you may have, but the opinion you form of me after a few seconds of a video isn’t correct. You are exactly the reason I would be good TV. You watched a few seconds of my video and wanted to smack me in the head. Given the chance to play I hope it’s with people as opinionated as you.
For your edification … In making the first video I shot around 30 – 40 minutes of video and had a friend help me edit it down to under 3 minutes. This was the first time I ever asked for help and was pretty pleased with the help I got.
For the second video I grabbed a tripod and went to the beach. I shot over an hour of video trying to look and feel like a confessional on the show. I dressed with the funny hat and loud shirt and edited what I said into sound bytes I thought the casting people could manage. (Between you and me I’m pretty sure most of the CA’s aren’t too bright.)
Obviously my videos weren’t scripted.
From my MS call with Lynne I garnered a couple nuggets of casting wisdom worth sharing. She asked if she were to speak to my closest friends what reasons would they give for me getting cast. That’s what the video should be. She also said to me she wished I had played up the “Jersey thing” a little more. (That’s why I shot the video near the Statue of Liberty.) She mentioned I’m in a competitive age group for casting. (Surprisingly she thought I was a little younger than I am, probably because I have a new born. In actuality I’m a little older than her.) She did mention the John Rocker, Cliff Robinson, Jeff Kent type people who bring notoriety to the show.
