I had posted some prototype modernized 3D printed pygmy heads somewhere in another thread but forgot about all that work I had done until today. Someone in the world, perhaps from the island, has purchased 10 (TEN!) pygmy heads from my Shapeways store where I have futzed around with this 3D printing stuff. Somewhere in my dungeon I have the same part I fabricated for myself along with some prototype 3D printed springs to make some bobble heads. I really need to get back to that work sometime soon. Ha, so you're the one who bought another one! The sandstone material is not something you want to handle a lot with your grubby little pygmy hands, or get wet. It's basically drywall material with color and a glue binder. But I think you will be surprised by the quality. Mine turned out awesome. There are some good clear spray products you can coat it with so let me know if you want to do that. You don't want a spray that will discolor your pygmy.  They have a color plastic process that designers can purchase but it's not something that can be sold to other people yet, because it isn't a very stabilized material. Stinky, not great colors, poor dimensional stability, but it is waterproof so maybe ok for some things. But within a year or so they will be testing out the new HP color printers that are (advertised as being) awesome. All I know for sure about HP printers is that they will print many times faster, about 10x or more, which generally means lower prices at some point. But I don't think they will be cheaper than your free pygmy! |
